Title: gear shift plastic dome nut
Post by: mod491 on April 13, 2010, 01:28:09 PM
Does anybody make an aluminum replacement dome nut for the screw-in type shiftlever?

I have several of the plastic type and I'm not real impressed with the pull-out factor when power shifting, that how I learned the hard way about plastic threads stripping out. Now I am using the same transmission in a race car.

No one repros these that I know of. If someone does, I would be interested, it would be much more reliable than the plastic one, even on a daily driver.

The only one I know available is on the billet shifter from Racer Walsh ($150). I've slung a few shifters into the backseat myself. One thing to consider is tighten the dome nut then be sure to use the lock tabs to prevent loosening. These four cylinders will vibrate apart quickly. JT

When I had the nitrous injected 2.0 4 speed in my car I used a Hurst shifter, it still had plastic threads but it must have been more heavy-duty because  I never threw that one in the backseat!! I think RW still sells them.
