I just spoke with Jim at American Muscle about fenders and what not. Nice guy, and he will be calling me back about what he has in stock. Has anyone here ever purchased from them? He is all of about twenty miles from my house...

I drove out to American Muscle yesterday and picked up a pair of rear quarters for my 77 Bobcat. The pieces are both approximately 24"x51" and extend from the edge of the door opening all the way to the tail lights, from the bottom of the fender to the bottom of the rear window. Brand new .018 gauge steel, they went for $170 each. I don't know exactly if that should be thought of as expensive or not, but I've not seen new sheetmetal for a Pinto in thirty years. These are not NOS, they are currently being manufactured. He also knows of a company talking of making floor pans. Holy cow. I'll be using these fenders in an upcoming article, and if anyone is interested, I'd be happy to e-mail or post photos of them. I'm excited because in one fell swoop some of the worst areas of my car will be solid again, and I can't guess how long it has been since that was the case.

excellent news  :o and I think thoes prices are fair considering what you get. I paid much more than that for the NOS ones I found when I was looking. I'm also really! excited to hear possible floor pan re-pops! that would be fantastic! I look forward to news on that  ;D

170 bucks for a Pinto quarter panel?   :hypno:
A very fair price after knowing that 300 will buy me a repopped Cutlass quarter skin.
600 will buy me a Cutlass quarter with the door jam attached.  :o

Yes, I know the Cutlass one is almost twice the size though...  ::)

Matt,

I purchased my reproduction quarters from Black Car Parts two years ago and, of course had to pay shipping also... ended up being about $450 for the two.  Sounds like you got them at a comparable price.

Well I guess that's not all bad then. Soon I will be cutting apart a car. If that isn't scary I don't know what is.

.
Putting it all back together...  :P

Do post your progress, too.
Sounds like many a rusted Pintos now have a chance at being restored!

In light of this, I'll be more interested in bidding on the 1976 with the rotted quarters. I'll look at the rest of the car and see if it is worth saving and if I can get it cheap enough, I know that I can look to buy these repop quarters and try my hand at bodywork.

This could work out well if enough folks can use them. I was working on the Bobcat last night stripping out more of the interior and removing some more of the floor. There is a lot of rust damage, some of which is very cleverly hidden. One of those examples is the drain tubes for the sunroof. These are large, probably 3/4" hoses that extend from each corner of the sunroof and disappear somewhere in the body while making their way to drain holes. If the tube came out (at least one of mine did) from the anchor at the bottom, the water would back up inside the body panel. We know what that means. I wonder what percentage of this car will end up being replaced? I know there is a point where I should say, "Whoa." I just don't know what it is.

I know this is an old thread but so cool since I have to open my rears for the 21.5 Mickey`s. Does anyone know of door skins that are available?
