Title: Brake Rotors on a 72
Post by: pintoches on April 11, 2010, 09:59:18 AM
I need to get my 72 ready to be a daily driver. The brake rotors are very rusty and pitted. Should I do a pad slap and let the pads clean them up, Or I can turn them at work but not sure how much rotor will be left when I'm done turning them. Want to prolong replacing them tell I can come up with money for new ones.

My 73's rotors were like that to, the car had sat for a good 15-20 years.

I used a couple wire brushes on a pneumatic die grinder tool. They cleaned up very nicely!

When I bought my 2nd '72 the rotors were pitted bad from sitting. After replacing calipers, hoses, repacking the bearings I took a scotchbrite wheel and buffed the surface. Slapped on a new set of pads and no problems. New rotors for the '72 are rather pricey when you can find them so I try to make them last. I have about 10 sets of pads if you have trouble finding them let me know. JT
