I spend far too much time daydreaming about getting the Pinto running, since I'd rather be driving it than the beat-up '93 Ranger that's serving daily-drive duty right now. 185K and it runs great, though the rust is starting to do a job on the body. I like the little old truck, but it's not what I want to be driving forever.
And then suddenly I wonder...
I wonder...
I wonder if the Ranger's 2.3 and five-speed will fit in the Pinto? For when the truck's body rusts out, of course. I mean, I wouldn't just snatch its engine out to get the Pinto running sooner. Even though I only paid $800 for it, and it needs shocks and brakes and an exhaust...I mean, why would I want to rip the motor out of a Perfectly Good Truck to get my Pinto running? Right? Um...right?
Help! Somebody talk me out of this!
Ummm....I doubt I'll be any help talking you out of it but I'll try... ;)
Because the lil' Ranger, for all intents and purposes, is very practical...think pickup... ;D Now, when the body's all rusted and gone to pot and is no longer practical... then I'd swap.
I believe Fred did that swap. I remember some tire smokin' pics he posted anyway.
Personally, I would not go to the trouble and/or expense of transplanting a 185000 mile engine. After all, if you were in need of a heart transplant, would you want one from an eighty-year-old donor? Keep and drive the Ranger as is (trucks are wonderfully handy to have) and find a lower mileage, healthier powerplant for your Pinto. Just my two cents worth!
