Im looking at upgrading to msd or mallory ignition to my pinto. Which is better/ cost effective. Is there a complete kit available? -or- From somebody who has done it, preferbly to a non race motor, a list of part i need.
I have a good idea of how to go about this but dont want to screw this one up...
The biggest difference between the msd and mallory systems is the msd distributor has to have the msd cd box to run. The mallory unilite is a 3-wire hookup stand alone. I'm running an old YL mallory dual point with the e-spark conversion in my 2.0. I used the mallory 29219 coil which is internally ballasted, so again 3 wires and it runs great. My 2.3 car has a off brand billet dist with a msd 6AL and blaster 2 coil. A bit more wiring involved with the cd box, but it also works well. Neither of my distributors have vacuum advance, but I'm not to concerned with fuel mileage. Hope this helps and will gladly answer any more questions about either system. JT
Yeah I don't use the vacuum advance on mine right now. I use a 32-36 dgv weber and it gets better millage at 60 @ 2k that in town. I have a weird car, its a t-5 tranny with a 8.8in rear end with 3.89 gears. I know enough about cars and motors but I need a person to go over it first hand, its a unique group of parts. Thanks for your help
