I'm looking to get a bit more out of the 2.3 in my 74 wagon. It has a C3, so I can't go crazy, but I think I have a plan. It runs a bit fat now with the 5200, so first I'm looking at a Hedman header which should tend to lean it out a tad. Next, a 260H Comp cam... something to get a bit more torque down low, but not require a carb change. I've read the threads about the roller cams, but don't know that there's enough difference over my stock cam to hassle it. If I can get the torques down lower I should (right) be able to keep my foot out of it. Advancing the cam has given me an acceptable mid/top end but on the street it is lacking from a stop.
Anyone have a similar build and have any feedback?
Not sure what the spec is on the comp cam, but with that auto trans don't go crazy with duration!
BTW, advancing the cam gives low end power, retarding gives more top end.
I'm aware of that. I wound up advancing 4-1/2* giving it more midrange and a bit of bottom end, but with a C3 converter it needs more low to mid (torque). The 260H is a .420 cam with 212* @ .050 on a 110 centerline. I'm not looking for a killer combo, just want to smooth out the powerband a bit.
Thats a good cam, should work fine with your set-up and the c3. :)
I don't think I'll have to worry about too much tire spin.... :o
