Title: Pinto motor in my sand rail
Post by: midpinto on December 21, 2004, 07:27:59 PM
Hey Guys-

I just bought a sand rail that has a worked over pinto motor in it. The seller says the head had been milled, bigger valves, etc. He also installed an after market cam (not sure on specs), new Holley carb, header, etc. What other mods can I do to this motor? WIll it take to a turbo setup? Is there a noticebale performance gain going to an electronic ignition? ANy help on this is appreciated.

There would be a fair amount of work involved in setting the pinto motor up for turbo use.  You would have to have the dished forged piston in the block. It would run as is but will not last very long under boost from the turbo,(been there done that). You would also want to chage it over to run with the fuel injection/electronic ignition. So you would need the computer, engine wirring harness, intake and exhaust setup from a turbo doner car. Then the on real problem left would be the oil return line from the turbo back into the oil pan.

I just got done rebuilding my turbo'd 2.3 engine. I'm now waiting for my sandrail frame builder to call saying my frame is ready. I hate the waiting part......
