Just set my valves and did a compression check on the number one and im getting a reading of 60 and I think im supposed to be getting a reading of 80
I dont know what the others read because my battery went dead before i could check
I have a 1973 ford pinto wagon 4 in line 2.0
thanks ;D
80 sounds low to me. I have 120 on my 74. Its a 2.3 but it should still have about the same compression.
The lowest on my '74 2.3 last year was 120 and the highest 135.
Ok, but did you ever have new rings put in and what not? And how many miles do you have on it?
Delizious,
Your Comp Number is too Low. Recheck the valve adjusment after verifying that each cylinder was at TDC "On the compression stroke". If all is correct, The rule of thumb is that the lowest comp # should be within 10% of the highest comp #.
This could mean bigger problems if all is correctly set and aligned.

Delizious, as far as I know her engine is all original- no rebuilding, new valves, etc. She has lots and lots of miles on her and the odometer turned over a long time ago I'm sure. She has no performance parts on her. I had thought 120 was low. In any cae, good luck with yours. They might try your patience but they're worth it! ;D
Actually my pinto has 50,000 miles on it
Delizious,
You have tight valves, recheck your timing belt marks alignment, and then reset the valves on the compression stroke at TDC.
50K miles and 80lbs is way too low..
