when installing a new clutch disc?
I'm just wondering this primarily because I always see clutch discs or pressure plates sold in kits, including the disc, pressure plate, throw-out bearing and pilot bearing.
Were there any previous issues? Are they any discoloration marks, cracks, uneven wear, grooving? If not then maybe. I have reused pressure plates in the past. I just clean the glaze off them if they look ok and have had no issues.
On the other hand is any of the above applies I would replace it. Doing the clutch is not too easy a task. If you didn't pay $50 extra for the kit (disc, plate and throw out bearing) and had to redo it again that $50 or so would seem like a small amount at the time.
Look on Ebay if money is a problem. I got a LUK clutch kit for my Mazda 323 daily driver for $85 shipped to my door. A lot of people cautioned about the Asian clutches (mostly Korean). LOL, with the LUK the disc was from Mexico, the plate from So. Africa, the bearing from Japan and the alignment tool, well that was from right here in the good old USA.
FYI when I needed the crank bell for my Turbo/T-5 conversion I noticed the disc and plate in the junkyard looked pretty good. So, I went back and got them. I paid something like $8 for both. The disc though slightly used, measured .030 thicker than the replacement disc I got from Autozone (which I promptly returned the $45 item). The used items work just fine.

I think it is just good insurance to replace all four pieces when doing a clutch as well as resurfacing the flywheel.
I'm planning to get a new flywheel from Marco (Karina), and redo my clutch this spring while I"m changing out the windshield gasket. My existing flywheel can't be ground down any lower and I skipped that step when I last did my clutch. :(
Hopefully all goes well.
