I have heard that one can use spray paint to restore their carpet!
I read in another post (can't remember what or where it was/is) that someone restored their carpet via a "secret (may not be secret, lol) tip! They even showed a before and after pic. I just can't remember if they ever said how they did it.
I have carpet that is in decent shape but could use some color! How do I put color into it? If via spray paint, what is the procedure? Would one spray it on lightly and rub it in as they go, or do you just spray it on and let it dry?
Thanks for any tips!!!
I think it was Pintony that used spray paint on his carpet. I have looked into this more on the web earlier this summer and if I remember correctly, the vinyl dye is the stuff to use.
If you figure it out, let me know as I have an original black cargo mat from a hatchback that is faded that I would like to restore.

Yes, just got that confirmed! I was told it made the carpet kind of stiff! Really don't want that if I can avoid it!
Just had a thought! I wonder how Rit dye would do? Maybe put it full strength in a spray bottle and spray it on??

I like the Rit dye idea.
A couple of years ago, I had a professional detailer dye the carpet in my Continental Mark V. He purchased the carpet dye from a local paint supply company and, although he used a spray gun, he says the dye can be put in aerosol cans as well. He told me it is similar to, but of a slightly different chemical makeup than, vinyl dye. He sprayed a small area at a time, then worked it in with a stiff brush. Once the entire carpet was completed, he sprayed a second coat all at once, to even out any color discrepencies. Once that was dry, he vacuumed the entire carpet. It looks great, is not stiff, and has held up well. Hope this helps!
