Below the where the air cleaner goes. With the 5 or 6 holes. What screwed onto here? What is it?
altitude compensator
I knew about the altitude compensator, but I have never seen one before. Got any pictures?
Also, what regions of the US would this be used?
rocky mountains colorado and any high country
Hmm, that would explain the performance of my 78 Sedan when I drove down to Logan Utah last spring, and my friend and I went up to Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. :D :P (No, I do not have an altitude compensator)
Sorry but this is all Greek to me. So this "altitude Compensator" screws onto the side of carb shown in my picture? If so, what does it look like?
Do you have a link or reference? I did a search, but no luck?
Looks Like This::::: in the book, that goes on a ,, Model # 2150 2v carb check your numbers,,,,Dave on yours you may have to change carbs,,, if you don't have this model..... Steve is this the model # on your carb? Also the # 5200 2 v carb has the same thing as your carb in the picture,,,but nothing is installed in that spot on the 5200 2v check your carb # I think Ford only put high altitude carbs on cars that where sold for mountain driving,,,Like the 68 mustang high country special had altitude carbs and it was built for the colorado market........... it looks the same as the California special`s i had,,, just different lettering on the stripe`s
Hmm, need to get me one of these. Time to scour the junk yards and parts stores!

Thanks for the info and picture in your book.
Now I know 8)
Hmmm - a nice thing to know... I always wondered what that was - I have one on my 78 also. :amazed:
I guess the altitude compensator was only added to cars sold in higher elevations to alter the mixture.
