happened across this site. Loved my. 1973 Pinto runabout, 4 speed. Had it 11 years until it was stolen. Any Pintos in North Jersey? Would love to get one for an extra toy. Replaced it with a 1983 Fiat Bertone X1/9, which I still own.
Welcome to the site!!!
I can't believe someone stole a Pinto! LOL I guess they are more popular then most think!!! ;D ;D That does zoop that someone stole yours though!

Damn near froze working inmy garage this weekend re-wiring the dash. Vinnie, check out ebay, and check out the classified section here. I have seen Jersey Pintos from time to time. Just keep an eye out and wait for the one, you will know it when you see it, it may take a while, but your Pinto is out there.

Welcome!
Where did you live when it was stolen?? I would first guess Dallas TX, as I even hear of people with cavaliers and corollas getting carjacked here... :reek:
First time ever I heard of a stolen Pinto... :amazed:
I Guarantee you this Pinto would not be left on the Street without a Armed guard nearby! It's as valuable and unique as any and with Cossie power it's worth over 30K minimum. And yes , according to its owner it will be Street legal. This one will stand out in the "stampede" and Carlisle if it's finished in time.
Yes Pintos are "collectable"

Joined this a year ago and forgot about it. Got an email today about the stampede to Carlisle.
My 1973 Runabout was stolen from in front of my house in Paterson NJ in 1984. I had just purchased a 1983 Fiat Bertone X1/9 and the Pinto was not in the garage. The car had slotted mag wheels and full instrumentation. I still own the Fiat today, and I often wonder if I would still have my Pinto. I like to think I would have kept it.
Been looking on eBay for a year, have not really seen any 73's. I recently found the little metal horse emblem that was on the fender, that I never put back on after a fender bender. It's all I have left.
Kimmy will never buy mine! BWAAAHHAAAHAAA!!!
THe PIntos out here tend to have considerably less rust than the ones back east. So in a way... the Back East Pintos are literally cooler because those rust holes get a tad drafty!
VinnieTee, I'm so sorry about you losing your beloved Pinto- even if it was way back then. It would be a miracle if you happened to find that same car so you can reunite the found emblem to its rightful place. I imagine it was a poignant moment when you came across that emblem after so many years.
What color was this '73 Runabout? If you have pictures, I'd love to see them.
I almost forgot... :welcome: !
It's the car in my profile pic. The car was found a few days later, totaled. This was 1984, I paid 2100.00 NEW in 1973, got insurance money for 800.00.
Metallic green with tan interior. I would still buy the same model/color /year if I find it reasonable.
Pinto's always had a BAD RAP. So did my Fiat, but if you take caRE OF SOMETHING IT WILL LAST.
Vinnie
VinnieTee... I'm sorry it was a total loss. I had hoped it wouldn't have been destroyed and was still out there waiting to come home. :(
When I first saw this thread my 'puter didn't bring up your avatar. Sorry about that.
You are so right- You take care of your car, your car takes care of you. That's probably why my '71 survived for darn near 40 years (She'll be 40 in may!)- her previous owner took great care of her. My '97 Isuzu Rodeo still drives like a champ... but her interior smells decidedly like dog...she's the dog-park transport for my two large fur kids til the '73 wagon gets her clutch replaced. ;D
You can always watch craigs list too. Thats how I found my low milage wagon for $900. I do not know if you are a purist or not. If not, you can always find a different year and change things to make it match what yer after.
Just added the avatar today. I will be checking Craigs list. I found a pair of remote control Pintos on eBay a few years ago. I will get my Pinto again.
