Title: Interference Angle?
Post by: Runabout80 on December 06, 2004, 06:27:25 PM
Okay, big question here because I don't want to go through the trouble of replacing the timing belt and water pump on my Pinto just to find out the bugger's an interference angle engine.

So can anyone tell me for sure whether the 2.3 is interference or not? Because if it is, then I've already FUBAR'ed the cylinder head. But if it isn't I can look forward to getting the old Pinto running when I get home for the holidays.

No, the 2300 is NOT an interference motor. slap a new waterpump & timing belt on that puppy & drive it away!

Thanks, that's what I needed to hear. The last thing I need to have to deal with is rebuilding the head over Christmas, I've left the old Pinto sitting next to the garage too long.

I just wanted to make sure before I spent the time to replace the pump and belt, because I figured Murphy's law would take full hold on the situation. Again thanks Crazyhorse, now I know I won't be expecting any bent or broken valves so I don't need to do anything more.

That's ok Cheapracer (i resemble that name by the way LOL) We all started  out "as dumb as a bag of hammers" Watch , listen, read, & learn, that's the key to getting better.

Oh yeah, that or just go to an Auto-Diesel College. That's my route right now, it's just the current class I'm in made me think of asking. Since I couldn't find anything that explicitly said whether the engine was an interference angle or not. Why waste the hours when I don't have to.

Well, the cheap part came after the second kid. I've many muscle cars and now I'm down to a Pinto (my 3rd one) but I'm finding out it's not too bad and with the price of muscle cars going up through the roof, I'll be driving my Pinto along time.

Lets also say I've got enough power to skin the rubber right off the rear rims, I smoke most Mustang Gts,I drove to work and back (96 miles) and my gas guage never came off the full mark, my first hod rod in a long time that had room for a back seat (for my kids) and my insurance is about 13.00 a month. NOT TO SHABBY! ;D
