Title: driveshaft length
Post by: pintoracer02 on January 02, 2010, 03:09:52 AM
does anyone know off hand what length driveshaft is required for a v8 swap with t5 trans and 8" mustangII rear axle? Will the 4 cyl driveshaft hold up to this set up if i have it cut and shortened?

I used a aluminum shaft for a Fox body mustang worked  perfect. I have never had any luck with steel shafts when you start making power. Used to bend them every week end.

Thanks for the help. This is the first v8 swap i've done in a pinto. I know where a couple of fox driveshafts are so that should be know big deal.

I believe the correct length is 45.5"

  Just so happens a:

1973, C-4 behind a 2000 with an original 6-3/4" rear worked perfectly with a ---,

T-5 behind a Turbo 2.3 with a Mustang II, 8".

One of the easier things on my 2.3 Turbo/T-5 swap. Slide in the yoke and tighten the four U-bolt nuts.

I mention the applications because I had heard different trans/rearend configurations had different length shafts.  The possiblity exists that just getting any shaft from a certain car might not fit.  And even here I'm assuming the T-5 will mount in the same location regardless of the engine being a V-8 or an inline 4.
