Title: 78 Pinto RQ'S
Post by: BlueGoldPinto on November 27, 2004, 04:54:34 PM
Hey does anyone know where I can get rear quarter repair panels for my 78' runabout? Nobody seems to make them, which is weird because it's not unusual that they rusted-out.The only thing that I can seem to find is whole rear quarters for a runabout, and they cost like $120 each. All I need is the rear quarter up to the top of the rear marker-light, or up to the top of the wheel-well. Let me know if you can help me out, please.

One of the things about a Pinto that I really like is the fact that the main stream public doesn't like them. This makes them really cheap to play with. That being said, why don't you just start with a rust free example? I casually looked around for a ‘71 to ‘73 wagon for a couple weeks and I found a '73 wagon in Tucson for $500! I had to pay $250 to ship it to me, but it was worth it. It runs very good and there is nothing more than light surface rust in a few areas. Here in Vegas, I see late 70's models all the time for less than $1000 with most around $500. With the amount of effort required to replace the quarters it may be better to just buy a nicer car to begin with.

If we were talking a '69 Camaro or a '66 Mustang Fastback I would have an entirely different opinion!  ;D

Well, that would be okay, but this car was ment to be. You see , a few weeks before I got the car, my father was telling me that I should get a Pinto. I had saved up about  $800 to put towards my Volkswagen Beetle, which I still intend to do. So, we were driving up to a flea market, when low-and-behold, what is sitting alongside the road but a Pinto. So, I said, I'd like to check that out. So on our way back from the flea market, we stopped and looked a t the car. We asked the man that was there if we could look at his car, and he said, sure, but it's not mine it's my sons. So anyway I looked the car over a the first thing I went for is the underneath, being that since my Volkswagen needs almost totally new floors,Heating channels etc. And they were like, brand new. Someone was smart enough to protect the unerneath with undercoating, Lucky me!!! The sign on the car said, 78 Pinto runabout, Great on gas 30mpg, $600. Well, I knew I could afford the cute little car. Then my dad points out the blantenly obvious, hey it's blue and gold, is'nt that your high school colors? Well yes they are. So, to make a long story short, I picked up the car for $500 and all is like perfect on it except the rear quarters. Ment to be right??? And anyway, it's my first Pinto, and where am I going to find another first Pinto???? And anyways, the car is to nice to just let go, and seeing as how it is not to difficult to replace the rear quarters if you know hpw to do it, and I am willing to do it, then it would just be easier for me to by some NOS or cheap new rear quarters if I could just find some then go out and buy a whole new car. Anybody know where I can get some?????

Oh and besides the fact my family is pretty strictly Ford People and in no way would I ever even consider an INFERIOR CHEVY VEGA to my cute little Pinto Runabout.

...not to mention that Pintos are an endangered species here in the rust belt! It would be nice to be in Az when it comes to cars!
