I'm looking for a header to replace the Shoenfeldt that came with my 2.0 Pinto. An owner or two ago a very flaky motor mount was fabricated to clear the Shoenfeldt and it just has to go. Rather than fabricate something strange, I'd rather get a header that actually fits.
Much googling later, I came across Stahl headers. No info is available when searching these boards ... anyone with experience?
I've emailed Stahl to see what it might cost ... if they'll even build one still.

I bought the last Stahl header made by Stahl in 1990. All I got was one header flange, one collector, and 8 pre bent pipes. I had to weld it up myself. And like all other 2.0 headers, it cracked after a while. The only one that didn't crack was the two piece Headman. Even Walsh said that in his 1980's catalogs. Solid motor mounts will make them crack in one race. I know this for a fact.
The catalog on the Stahl website still lists a 2.0 header, part #041, built on special order. I wonder what it would cost.

Hedman has a So-Cal facility just a couple of miles from my place. Any one have a part #? Maybe I can take a trip over there

And as information; years ago (see attached link)
http://www.pertronix.com/about/news/details.aspx?id=2 (http://www.pertronix.com/about/news/details.aspx?id=2)
Pertronix (the ignition people) bought up a few so-cal exhaust manufacturing companies. http://www.pertronix.com/prod/ex/default.aspx (http://www.pertronix.com/prod/ex/default.aspx) Maybe Pertronix has someone in corporate who may be able to answer some questions.
After going thru the catalogs in their product line the only listing I found for the Pinto is couple of #'s for 2.3 litre cars
Here is a copy of an e-mail I sent to Doug Thorley headers in Corona, Ca. with their response. I also checked Pacesetter's catalog & they also do not have anything for the 2.0 Pinto. I've e-mailed Hedamn here in Whittier but have not received a response yet. I do not want to show up unannounced.

Back in the '70's I was a warehouse distributer (Champion Muffler) in Whittier for Doug's headers (located in Montebello then).
Affiliated with Ak Millers garage at the time, we sold a lot of them and
specifically a header for the Ford Pinto 2.0 litre.
I don't see anything like this in your current offerings and that is not surprising but might you
have any insight into the whereabouts of the old jigs &/or Omer Clautier or
Brad Anderson or a lead on those who may still offer a part # for this
car?
Thanks

I am sorry but most of the Jigs from that era were destroyed or trashed over
the years as we have nothing left for a pinto.
Sorry

Haveing owned both 2.0 and 2.3 Headman two piece headers, the headers "LOOK" like they are the same except for the flange. The 2.3 header is still made and listed in the Jegs catalog for $150 or so. Cut off the flange and weld on a 2.0 flange. Thats what we do for headers for the 500inch Cads. Big block Chev fits perfect except for the flange. Works for me.

That's a pretty good idea on swapping flanges. I might add, header tubes will last longer with less breakage if they are 'moving' with the motor/trans combo. Take the time to secure the header near the trans/engine interface (like the stock ones) and at the collector area over to the trans if needed.
The long length and vibration tend to get them moving/flexing if not secured and this is a big contributer to primary pipes broken at the flange.
Brazing the pipes at the flange (on the outside face) is also a good idea.
2.0 cracking is just a 2.0"THING" as the same header(Headman) never cracks on a 2.3. One of those mesh looking conectors that goes on the end of the collector would help. I cracked the bell houseing and the tranie tail houseing before I found out solid mounts didn't work. A liquid front balancer would help too, but lots of $$$$.
