I have a 75 with A/c and the question i have is there a consol that will work with my A/C controls but with a shorter tray. I have an after market shifter and the consol sticks out too far and i had to "notch" it.
So any shorter ones that will work?
jim
50 looks and nobody has any help???? :read:

jim
I concur. only seen 2 sizes, the one I used to have (no ac) and the one I have now (for a/c), with the exception being 71.

Beyond the tray length are there any other differences?? Actually what i am asking can I use the center A/C control in the non-A/C consol???
thanks
jim
I figured that to be the next question yes there are differances but i dont know if they will interchange. if i get a chance i can look at my parts car and get a pic on the non ac and then get a pic from my car (ac) maybe from the pic you can figure out what you need. it will be a few day though.
phil
Thanks Phil. No hurry as it is supposed to snow for two days and then be about a high of 15 with a wind chill about zero.

I don't see why you couldn't adapt something, Jim. I used to have a short console in my car. I had the radio installed in it in the upper part. I cut out the center section of the top front with a hacksaw blade (even with the inside vertical edge of the console) which left a lip to use the aftermarket kit from a 87-93 Mustang. Be careful, though, most of the consoles are brittle by now, and drilling holes for screws should be done gently...

Now with the new shifter I have this problem.

i need a short tray.
jim
The short coin tray will have to be cut to fit the ac controls...i cut one coin tray,, with a olfa knife with a new blade,,takes a bit to do go slow... One more thing you may have to check, is the top wide enough on the short tray for the ac to fit when it`s cut,, in the picture of mine,, it looks thinner to me....but check it...The small coin tray will fit, they are the same just the length is different....the top of the small tray is 1"7/8 inchs wide length is 8"5/8 this is the inside measurment
Does your A/C actually work, Jim?
I saw one on e-bay last night that the bottom of the console had been cut away. How dead-set are you on having a console? I have a spare long console, but I sold both of my short consoles. I didn't need to do anything to go from short to long console, the original bracket stayed in place.

Just another thought

good question about the A/C. I really don't know which way to go. I have everything from the firewall back. Nothing in front of that. Since this won't be turboed I think that maybe I might work on that later on.
It also looks like I will be getting a 77 Rallye hatchback this spring. i don't remember if it is A/C or not. I do know the floors are gone up front and possibly the front frame sections look rotten. Salt you know. most likely this will become a parts car. It is a strong driver and a 4 spd car so maybe somebody can use the drive train. Even has the special rims.
Thanks for the taking the time for the imput as it has helped a lot.
