Title: I have a Pinto dilema.
Post by: svoman2300 on November 23, 2004, 11:48:49 AM
As some of you know this 79 wagon I got from NY needs alot more work than I antipated. It needs a passenger door and fender, windsheild, gas tank, exhaust and worst of all the floorpan is absolutely in terrible condition. I can get the body parts from junkkyards for probably around $400 including shipping because I want them from the southwest. My biggest concern is the floorpan I don't have the skill or desire to tackle this myself. I know this hard to estimate but what would something like that cost to have done. The engines actually runs pretty damn good for sitting for a number of years.
Here's the dilema. I had made the decision to get rid of it even though I have $1000  already wrapped up in it with the purchase and transport, I would be lucky to get $200 for it. Yesterday I got a Ford brochure I got off of Ebay and it happens to have a wagon with the same exact color as mine (medium blue glow) and it reignited the Pinto interst in me. I got this thing with the intention of not being a project car, my SVO already takes all that money. Now my brother tells me he'll give me his 90 Mustang LX 5.0 if I want it and I can't have 3 cars. Do I throw more money into the Pinto knowing it will probalby never be worth more than a few hundred dollars or chaulk it up as an expensive lesson and find a better Pinto in the future when the ocassin arrises?
Thanks
Rick

Tough decision....  I had the drivers floor pan replaced on my 67 Mustang 10 years ago for $450 which included the metal pan.  I would say $400 was labor.  Floor pan replacement is not cheap unless you do it yourself.  Still you would need to find a donor car with a good floor.  What's condition is the rest of the car in?  Interior?  Did you ever post pics?
