Title: Going to look at a wagon tomorrow
Post by: dave1987 on November 22, 2009, 11:55:06 PM
I was at the gas station and a middle aged man said his friend has a 73 wagon that he's wanting to sell, it's been sitting in a barn for 13 years and he initially wanted to scrap it. He asked if I knew anyone who might be interested in buying it, I told him "yeah, me!". :)

It has 75,000 original miles on it, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, automatic transmission, roof rack, original hub caps, and it's brown. He said it needs to be restored.

I gave him my phone number and name, and he gave it to his friend. I got a call from his friend tonight about my interest in the car and he said I can meet up at his storage tomorrow after 4 PM to take a look at it. Asked him how much he wants for it, he said "oh.......$400???", so I believe he is open to offers. I will see how bad of shape it is in.

Hopefully no rust, if there is, I won't take her. This may be my chance to get an early model wagon of my dreams! :D :D

I will take lots of pictures for you all while I am there. I'll post them tomorrow night.

No pictures, sorry guys. I did go look at it though!

Body is very straight with the exception of the driver's side fender where the previous owner ran into the bumper of another car and cripled it a bit, and the grill is gone. The interior is trashed. Headliner hanging down, dash cracked beyond belief, seats dry rotted, windshield is cracked and the seal has gaps all over, probably has some rotted floor pans due to it. Door panels are destroyed and steering wheel is cracked. Gauge cluster plastic is probably brittle as he$$ and would probably fall apart if touched.

Not sure if the motor still runs or not either.

I was able to talk him down to $250 for it, however I just can't bring myself to justify it right now. Due to how much work it would require to get it road worthy and half way presentable again.

If I could talk him down to $150 or $200, I would go for it, but with my daughter here in a couple months, and the rising cost of diapers, I can't seem to see myself with any spare time to restore it. :(

So, if anyone here in Idaho or nearby is interested, it's up for grabs. There is one other interested party that will be going to see the car on Saturday. I would go pay for it if someone wants to Paypal me the money, and he would tow it to my parents house for me, and put some good tires on it too.

Got a nice chunk of extra cash coming in soon and I'm picking up the wagon next wednesday! WOO HOO!

I'll get lots of pictures then as well. Gonna have to stop by the parts store and get belts, ignition stuff and brakes. Then it's off to the DMV to register and add it to my insurance and she'll be on the road! :D

Two more days! :D

Spoke to the man on the phone today about the car. He's getting the tires on it and ready to load onto the trailer. Wednesday after 10 AM he will be calling me when he is ready to deliver her!

Will be doing the heater core in my 78 after the wagon is delivered, and while I'm out I will be getting the basic parts to get the 73 running. Ignition parts and a battery.

Let's hope the gauge cluster isn't deteriorating to badly yet. Most of what needs replaced inside I already have in storage, as well as a few extra wagon stuff from the bobcat I stripped this spring.

TWO MORE DAYS! :D :D :D
