Title: Hard Starting
Post by: mytxplode on November 20, 2009, 06:53:03 PM
It used to fire right up with a bump of the key. Since changing the timing belt & having a shop check the timing it just cranks very slow & weak. Gets worse every day. Battery is 100%. Possibly the coil? It's really hot! If it is the coil, I have a parts car, how to disconnect the red & green wires from the top?

If all you did was change the timing belt and then the problem started that's where the problem lies. Your ignition timing can be dead on, that has nothing to do with cam timing. One tooth off on the belt is 14 degrees off on cam timing.

Turned out starter was drawing too much amperage. (thanks to steve @ justask.com) switched it out & bingo! Started with just a key bump again....that day. Next day it just clicked, clicked hard. Tried to push start it & it's like the starter is locked up in the flywheel. It was a starter off the parts car. Going to install new starter. This time, I'll undo the motor mount & juack the engine up instead of cutting & removing the whole exhaust!

On the road again! The motor mount was a lot easier! Also, like the mini high tourqe starter.
