Title: T5 conversion with hydraulic clutch
Post by: yblock64 on November 18, 2009, 05:55:05 AM
Has anyone tried this with a hydraulic clutch? I know we covered this topic using different bellhousing combos, cable with pull, bellcrank type, but I'm still unsure as to which method works best. I have a 1980 with 2.3, currently automatic. It was a manual trans car at one time and the under dash pedal support is still intact, just not the clutch pedal. I have access to a 1992 T5 complete set-up from a 1992 Mustang, 2.3 car. It has the hydraulic clutch. Thanks in advance for any ideas, guys.

Never mind- I found out that the 92 Mustang T5 set-up is NOT hydraulic, it's a cable. Better, I guess.

I considered the hydraulic set up from my Turbo Coupe.  The Turbo Coupe (88) had an arrangement that mounts the MC over the steering column encased in the same rubber groumet. It just wasn't feasible. An additional problem is there is no room for a conventional clutch master cylinder on the firewall.

Thankfully I got the bell crank housing for $16 and the cable for $5 at the U Pull Parts.  The cable can be a pain to get out of the firewall with the expanding barbs.  Try a piece of 3/4" copper pipe about 1" long slit down the middle. Then use a hose clamp over the slit pipe to compress the barbs. Pull hard and it should come out.

Yes, I thought the same thing about the hydraulic set-up, glad I have the cable type. Good tip you gave on releasing the cable clip. I've used a worm hose clamp to remove the e-brake cables from rear axle backing plates, works well.
