As you all know I am getting ready to have my wagon (Shaggy). I want to pull all weatherstiping off except for the back windw glass (can't find replacement rubber! I started looking online for the "scrapers" and the window channel and also the door gasket. I found the scrapers and the door gasket, but I am unsure of the window channel.
I found this

Is that the stuff I need to "replace" the window channel that the window rolls up into on the top and back side of the door? Do I need to leave my original channel in and put that over it? I ask because I thought that the channel is supposed to be stiff, not soft and in a roll!
Any help would be great. I don't want to pull my old channel out, to find out I can't put this stuff in! Also if this is the wrong stuff, can anyone point me to a link for the right stuff??
Thanks
Kim
That should be the correct channel. It goes in place of the old stuff. They don't have it preformed, just in the rolls like what you are seeing. It will stay in place in the groove once install it.
Kim, you did not mention where you saw that, but the one pictured looks like what I got for my 78. Mine came from topsdown.com. It fit in the groove, but it does not seal as tight as I had hoped. Of course yours may have thicker window glass than my 78.
Fit it in without cement and see how it does. Carefully bevel the rear corners without cutting it. Be sure to chisel out all the old cement with a wooden or plastic object (to reduce paint removal).
Some areas may need cementing. Pay close attention if it buckles in the front window curves and the window catches it and mashes it. I have that issue.
"Been there, done that..."
Believe it or not, I found the same channel molding that you show above at J.C. Whitney and it was a lot less money than anywhere else I found it. One roll will do one door on the wagon. It fit perfectly on the 73 and was fairly easy to install. Just pull the old channel material out and replace it. You have to remove the door panels to get inside the door for easy installation. It took me about 2 hours to do both doors on the 73. You might check it out!
"Pinto's are Cool!"
Thanks everyone!! That is what I wanted to know! I didn't want to pull the old stuff then find out this stuff wasn't the right stuff! LOL Now I can pull my old stuff before I have the car painted!! ;D ;D
I just did my 79. Just shot a little lube in the track & pushed it down. Used no adhisive, seems to have worked great!
Wow, just did that on 5 of my pintos. I got them from a guy at a glass shop. You guys have better ideas!
