Title: Junk yard find
Post by: 78squirewagon on October 30, 2009, 04:46:17 PM
So, I see this ad on the Milwaukee Cragislist for Pinto parts for sale. I e-mail him and we agreed to meet up today. I was able to get a front air dam, a sport steering wheel and a Mustang II center console for 60.oo. I had to drive about 1 1/2 hours to get to his house but it was worth it. I just placed an ad for him so if you need parts, call him up
While I was out that way, he took me to a couple of junk yards. One had a few old cars that were doomed for the crusher and another one (still has) a bunch of Pinto's and Bobcats all lined up with weeds growing out of them LOL!! This yard has a LOT of Chevette's lined up as well. Some of the cars are under water from the river over flowing
I was able to get a near perfect grill for my 78's for 10.oo. Just the center mounting tab is broken in the back
Here are some pictures I took. The yellow Bobcat Cruising Wagon is his and might be for sale soon. I will be going back to that yard and getting the sport mirrors and other small things later on.
It was a GREAT day to be walking around in the mud

What an incredible find! I would go crazy in a place like that. Hey, I really could use that rocker molding on the passenger side of that red wagon.....

That Bobcat porthole wagon is awesome - what a rarity......!!!

I will try and put that on my list.  there's a bunch of stuff I want to get but it might be next spring before I get back out there.
As far as the Bobcat Cruising Wagon, you might say it's one of none that was ever built. ;D  When I first saw it yesterday I thought it was factory myself with the colors and graphics but nope, it started out as just a Bobcat wagon

Improvised dealer option or home brew?

A friend of his that he bought it from did the work and painted the graphics on. Unless you look pretty close, it looks factory. It's a shame that Mercury did not do that with a wagon.
One of the wagons that was in the junk yard was a Bobcat Squire. It was way too far gone to save but still kinda neat to see. All of the Chevette's lined uo behind the Pinto's was pretty cool as well. I am going to go back just to take pictures next spring

Did Bobcat make a Squire along with the Villager?

Both square grill and four nostril Chevettes?

The Mercurys were Villagers, the Fords were Squires; different terminology for essentially the same trim.  In both cases, it refers primarily to the woodgrain vinyl appliques on the side and tailgate. Those names were used throughout the lineup, hence the Ford LTD Country Squire, etc.

Ok, cool. That is my lesson for today ;D
Either way, that yard was pretty cool and I want to go back when I have more batteries in my camera and it's not raining ;D

one more side note on the squire/ villager
the squire has larger border around the woodgrain
the bobcat is trimed with a chrome thin line.

Give us a weeks notice of your return trip to that yard. You may just have to take a trailer!!!!
