I searched but couldn't find what I was looking for. I picked up some Turbines for $20 for the Pinto. Do any of you guys have any recommendations for tire sizes? I read on TurboFord 205/50 for the front with 5/16" spacers. But couldn't find a whole lot of info here.
Thanks
Rick
Rick, I have 205/50/15's on my 73 HB. However the wheels are Centerlines instead of the turbines. I can't comment on the spacers as the early cars use a different offset wheel.
Those wheels have a 5" backset. Im not even sure if they will work on the front. ???
Because of the above mentioned backspacing, the wheels will need to be installed with the spacers. The one area to watch for is clearance to the upper control arm. With stock Mustang alloy wheels, the arms may have to be trimmed slightly. I am using '86 Mustang Police Special 15x7 steel wheels which are thinner than the alloys so I didn't have to trim the control arms. Don't get too carried away, though, because it could weaken the control arms beyond what is safe. I have used 205/50x15 tires on the front with the Mustang steel rims without any issues at all. I am running 225/50x15 on the rear, but a 245/50x15 should fit without any problems at all.
What is the back set on those front wheels?
I haven't measured the backset however I installed them on the rear with 225/60's without any problems. As ugly as I've always thought those wheels were, they actually look good on the Pinto. I put a wheel only on the front to see if it will fit and it barely touches the A arm when at full turn. I am going to get some spacers and see how it clears and if it works out I'll get some longer studs and install those.
Hey SVOman, you have any pics of these wheels themselves or even pics of them on the car? Thanks a lot! Rahn
I only put the rears on. I haven't got to the fronts. I figured I would need almost a 1/2" spacer to make the fronts work. I will try to get a pic by the weekend but I won't promise anything because I have to get my girlfriend's camera from her.
Rick
i have a set on my 1980 and i have 225/60 in back and 205/65 in the front but thats with removal of the inner fender and some hitting with a hammer in so places for clearance and 1/4 spacars in front.
I forgot to add that the car has some very bad bump steer now, and though they look cool on it, I'd just run them on the back if i had to do it again
I'm running 225x55x15 on the front and rear using 83 Saleen wheels that are 15x7.I don't have any clearance problems at all.And with no spacers.
