I got q small dilemma here. On my 78 Pinto w/the 2.3L engine the line that goes to the egr valve was cut off by the previous owner, and I'm wanting to replace it.
On the end that screws into the manifold how can I unscrew it without bending the line? I found one on an 83 Mustang, and I'm just gonna grab it off that and put it onto my car.
Any help will be appreciated.
Your better off to swap the manifold with the good tube attached. They are almost imposible to get off, without a fire wrench.
So, what I should do is remove the manifold then get the line off, and put it on my manifold before I put the manifold on the car?
You could do it that way, but It's going to be damn near impossible to get that fitting off the manifold. If you have the manifold that the new tubing is on, it would be way easier to swap the whole manifold. Unless you have things just fall into place for you. ;) I'm just not that lucky myself.
Well, I guess I sorta lucked out, but at the same time didnt. Once I got the manifold off the car I dropped it, and the right angle fitting broke off in the manifold. I went ahead and took the line home and with the use of Gods gift to mechanics everywhere- PB Blaster- Got the broken fitting off the line. Tomorrow I'm going after a fitting for it, so I canget it into the manifold. To help in removal in the future I'm going to put some anti-seaze on the threads, so I wont have the same problem in the future.
As for me taking the whole manifild, I would have done this, but it didnt have the heat shield, and had the connection for the air pump, which my car does not have. I'm actually replacing my manifold for the reason that it has the fitting for the air pump, but my car did not come equipped with one...
Maybe I'll luck out & find the manifold I'm looking for in the junkyard I'm going to tomorrow. ;D
