Title: 72 pinto engine flooding single barrell carb
Post by: miscar on October 10, 2009, 07:17:32 PM
I actually dont own a pinto i have a 632 bobcat but it apparently has the same engine as the 72 pinto. Since bobcat doesnt want to share any info i thought maybe i might be able to get some insight from pinto owners here. Ive been going through this engine pretty thorough and ive replaced most of the ignition and now im on to the fuel system . Ive put a rebuild kit into the single barrel zenieth carb and when the pump is is on the float seals because i dont get any gas coming out the breather ive let the engine sit with the pump on for 20 minutes and not a drop so thats not my problem. But when i go to turn the engine over a few times it floods to the point it has drops of gas coming out the air intake side of the carb. Is there something that i can adjust to restrict the flow? or was there some sort of pressure regulator originally that might have been taken out ( by previous owners) Its driving me nuts , the last car i had with a zenieth carb on it was my mg and even tuned properly it would shoot 4 inch flames out the exhaust occasionally. Any help would greatly be appreciated...

if its carb'd Id say look into how much pressure is going through the fuel lines. 6lbs seems to be just right for most carb'd Cars. but then again if it is running too much fuel pressure it should in theory Mess up the Float seal. or keep the Float open. so then again Im not the best at it but im trying to help you with some insight, or Just my .02 cents. I'm surprised no one has made mention of any solutions or Ideas for you to check. Of course it would help us to know what Size Engine it has

would be nice if you had another carb handy to just swap and see the difference.

unless it was another zenith carb i dont think i could sqeeze it into the compartment where the engine is. I did finally get the engine running but it can only go at one idle any increase and i start dumping fuel at such a high rate i kill the engine, also fuel pressure checked ok so im guessing it has to be jet related, to bad i cant find new jets for this thing. Anybody got a cheap single barrel zenith carb they want to get rid of?
