Well, as far as I know you will have to decide which you would rather replace, the shield or the gasket! I really don't think you can save them both. I recently tried to save both when by trying very carefully to push the (new) rubber gasket back out through the front. Got about half way around and 'crack' went the shield! It's really a toss up as far as cost of the two go. I believe I paid 89.95 for the gasket and 99.00 for the glass. Guess it really comes down to which you would rather have, "new" rubber or "new" glass! LOL

Maybe someone else here will have a way of doing it?

The best route is to cut the gasket. The shield and gasket are tied together rather tightly, and you don't want to mess with broken glass. Once the surround trim for the glass is removed, cutting the gasket away is a reasonably effortless affair. Besides, a new gasket is affordable, and a probably a good idea given the age of the car. With my own windshield out now, having gone through the process, replacing the gasket makes sense.

Steele Rubber products (as listed on the home page here, go to the bottom). Dennis Carpenter also sells them on EBAY, have no idea what the quality of his stuff is like. Both viable choices, though.
