Title: Parting out 73 runabout.
Post by: TIGGER on November 03, 2004, 04:41:53 AM
I picked up a 73 runabout for parts.  It is  2.0 4spd car with 180K.  The car runs and drives.  The body is in so so condition.  The interior is about the same.  It was avacado but the previous owner dyed most of it black.  The outside is white with avacado  trim.  I need a few items for my 73 Turbo car, the rest is up for grabs.  I will post pics in a couple days.

How is the grill, the last one I bought all the fins were intack, but in shipping, 2 of the mounting tabs broke off, I'd drive to your place to pick it up.
Thanks

Sorry the grill is no good.  It has two driving lights mounted in it.  YOu could probably get by with epoxying the mounting tabs back on the grill you already have?  I had the same thing happen to the grill I currently have in my 73.  I used some epoxy and it has held just fine for almost two years now.

Why don't we all on the west coast get together like the guys down south, drivin to Dollywood seems a little to far away for me. I'll try epoxy, the last glue I tried worked for a month.
Thank you anyway

I need the four bumper mounting brackets for the small front bumper. Rust free please. Don't need the bumper. Thanks, Tricky Dick.

On a 73 they used different mounting brackets. only the 71-72 had those 4 ( 2 per side) brackets. I have a set if you need them.

I need a rear vallance in good condition. and seat belts. Have any of those?

Dick you may as well get the brackets from Brad.  I have a feeling the brackets on this car are modified as the previous owner added his own bumpers ::)

Brad I believe the rear valance is decent.  I will take a closer look in the next couple days and get back to you.  As for the seatbelts, the drivers side front does not have factory Ford belts.  I am not sure about the passenger side or rear.  I take it you are only interested in the fronts?  Again, I will take a closer look in the next couple days.

I sure can use them. I'm putting 71/72 bumpers on my 76 Pinto. I have a set, but they are VERY rusty and bent. I need a really good set, that need little or no work to use. Contact me at mjelliott@cox-internet.com and tell me how much. DICK

I spent some time with the car today.  The pass fender and hood appear to be in good shape.  The rear hatch is rusty and not repairable.  The drivers door is dented but not rusty.  The drivers fender is dented and not worth fixing.  The pass door appears to be decent but has rust in the front corner.  The Front valance is nice with one small dent which is eaisly repairable.  The Front bumper is very nice shape.  No dents or bends.  Come with the impact strips and guards.  The rear bumper is missing the impact strips and has a couple dents.  I do have the bumper guards.  I currently have the bumpers listed on Ebay, sorry  :(  The interior is in sad shape but there are still a some good pieces.  No armrests or kickpanels.  The 4spd seems good.  It seems to drive ok and doies not make noise.  It supposedly was rebuilt at one time.  The only problem is that the reverse lock is worn.  Care has to be taken to shift into first and not reverse.  I assume it is just the shifter.  I have another spare shifter that I may swap to see if it makes a difference.

TIGGER!
The shifter is ok. Whats wrong is the little plastic u shape part down inside the tranie, that the shifter plugs into. They'll look ok to the eye, but as they wear, the shifter gets looser. I have seen shifters that mover twice as far, and the only thing wrong was this little bushing. PINTONY has new ones for sale.

I have an urgent request. I need a distributer driveshaft for a 2.0. Does your 73 still have the distributer in it and if so can I buy the hex shaft that drives the oil pump from you. Thanks.
Title: Re: Parting out 73 runabout.
Post by: TIGGER on November 09, 2004, 09:10:19 PM
Brad, is the shaft part of the distributor or separate?  If it is part of the distributor, then I am pretty sure I have a spare that came with my other 73.  If it is separate, then I don't want to sell it at this time.  I would like to keep the car driveable in case someone is interested in the motor or transmission.  I am going to be listing the car locally in the next couple weeks.  Let me know....

BRAD! Go to pegasusautoracing.com for any part for a 2.0 L engine. They stock every engine part as the engines are still used in SCCA racing. VERY good people to deal with. I have bought from them for 25 years. Tricky Dick.

Dick, thanks for the tip. I went to the Pegasus web site and , it is great. Unfortunately, they do not show what I need. The only site so far has been BAT. I may be going to the junk yard tomorrow to try and find one if BAT can not supply me with what I need. Again, Thanks for the tip.

BRAD! If nothing else works, grind down a 2.3 L shaft. Thats whats done to use a 2.3 L distributor in a 2.0 L engine. Machine shop could do that easy. Tricky Dick.

Post by: dick1172762 on November 09, 2004, 10:23:09 PM
BRAD! Get to know the SCCA people in your area. They still race the 2.0 L engines in several class's. Try web sites for formular ford 2000 or Sports 2000.  2.0 L engine is still in BIG use in the UK too. Tricky Dick.

Hey,

Is the driver's side rear view mirror one of those fancy faired ones with the remote inside adjstement by needs of a toggle on the door?  If so, I would like it, as mine is broken.
