Good afternoon guys!
I am swapping a dual Four Barrel 289 in a 1980 2 door trunk model
I came across a NEW set of early 1970's flat collector headers for the V8 converision I do not know who made them but they are very stout!
If you go on you tube and look up pangra there is a green pangra with a v8 in it these are the headers I have
The propblem is this: you install all of the tubes first then attach the collector from below the collector is interfering with the two bolt on short braces that go from the frame rail to the front crossmember for the steering.
My question is this:
Can I remove the braces and not worry about anyhting?
These are not the strut rods that go the the control arms but the short bolt on braces
I would hate to remove these and wreck or twist the front end
Also
Does anyone have any info on these headers I have or better yet an installtion sheey of some sort?
Thanks again
Dave
Two fours in a Pinto! Yea!
The two braces under there are for support, I think I would find a way to modify them or make something else. That's my 2 cents, anyone else? :) Oh, BTW, you are adding sub frame connectors, right? :look:
OK Headman Hussler made these!
I called Headman and they do not make them anymore but they still have a few of the moutnig plates needed to install properly
I ordered onbe today through Summit it should be here shortly as they must ship factory direct
I was under the car today and I think If I remove the brackets and build them "taller" with Some stout Angle Iron I shouod be OK
BTW
I had this 289 in a 89 5.0 chassis a few years back this is a really hot snappy engine!
It is a 65 289 K code Blue thunder intake (a perfect clone of a Shelby C6DZ Manifold and best of all it uses Holleys
The engine itself is a 12.7 to one for compression, factory iron heads (the best we can get in 1991 when I built it) with 2.02 intake and 1.6 exhaust valves ported and polished, mechanical cam, pete jackson gear drive, Factory rods with ARP bolts all around, coupled to a close ratio 4 speed with a custom Aluminim bell I modified with the Tig welder and some machining to use the centerforce dual friction clutch and the pull style cable
In the 5.0 in 4th I could firewall it and the secondaries will dump sendin it sideways at 55 mph!
I hope it performs in the pinto that way but the pinto is smaller and lighter plus I have a 9 inch Posi 3.50 in it!
I am pretty pumped up
OPnce it is in I will post pictures
Also I will need to tie it all togehter with subframe connectors Best of all it SHOULD fit under the stock hood when it is finished I am really excited about this one!
Thanks for the great reply
Dave
