Hey all,
I got a 78 Pinto Runabout with the factory rear defrost, and it doesn't work. I got a couple of the electrodes for the glass and was gonna get them ready to install but I noticed that the rear window was sorta missing the electrical part of the grid. Aside from replacing the rear window, how can I fix this?
Does anybody know of a comapny that sells defroster kits so I can just replace the whole grid on mine?
Matt, do you have the lift struts with the electrode connectors? They come into play somehow for sure. You could always put a spade connector on one end of a wire and lay the other end on the end of the grid and solder it on from the way it sounds. Sabrina doesn't have rear defog so I am only guessing here.
Mine just started working again tonite, I kinda like it cause it's cold avd rainy in wash. st. for the next 5 months, just say a good prayer tonite.

Well, I grabbed a couple electrodes off a Mercury Topaz and was gonna install them on my window, but the metallic part of the grid is gone so the electrodes don't have anything to conduct the electricity to. I hooked up the wires as they were cut and were just sitting in the back, but no power to the rear window, as no electrical grid.
I remember seeing those in like J.C. Whitney's catalog. They were a generic kit, but oughtta have what you need to fix yours. Also I've seen defroster repair kits at all the parts stores.
I'll have to see about trying that. If the price of a rear window with a good grid will cost more than the rear defrost kit I'll go that route and just go ahead and use my plugs on it.
