I bought a engine stand at garage sale but it was missing the bolts that bolt the stand to the engine--anybody have any idea what type of bolts and SAE or metric and how long they should be?? I would assumed they have to be at least grade #8
They normally do not come with the bolts to bolt the engine to the stand as the bolts will vary, depending on the engine. Best thing I can say is to remove a bellhousing bolt and go to your local hardware store to match it up. Make sure you take in account of the length of the spacers that are welded onto the stand when you buy the bolts.
