Funny thing happened today... I took my son to the local U-pull-it for some parts for his Escort. Disappointing trip. On the way home, my transmission just stopped functioning! Just like having a stick tranny and the clutch disc is transported out by the USS Enterprise for use in re-aligning the dilitium crystals or something.
My quest right now is this: I'm looking for something with a C3 that I can pull from the junkyard this weekend that will interchange :wow: :wow:. Anybody have any clues?
Failing the above, I'll have to find a kit for it. That's not a problem, but I'd rather do the easier job (and probably cheaper) by just doing a swap.
MANY THANKS in advance for ANY info provided!
the newest car a c3 came in was an 89 merkur xr4ti. at least im pretty sure about that. thats a 20 year old tranny. id just pull mine and rebuild it. or have it rebuilt if you dont want to tackle it yourself.
think of it this way: pull the tranny once and fix it right. put it back in and be done with it. or....pull the tranny and put a junk yard tranny in it. find out it doesnt have reverse. re pull tranny and exchange it for another. find out it has no high gear. re pull the tranny and have it rebuilt, put it back in and forget about it. the time it would take to fix the car 3 times could be spent drinking beer and slaying zombies on the playstation.

Yeah, I know... I'm just sitting here scratching my head trying to figure out what really happened. I mean, what are the chances the converter failed without notice? Maybe the pump failed?
Rebuild kits seem to be affordable, but the pump may be another thing altogether, I still have toprice that. I know converters aren't cheap...
Uh huh, just more and more fun... Of course, I realize my car and it's components are 30 years old!
Because I worked on fighter jets for 21 years, I know #2 happens and it needs to be dealt with. It just sucks that we're down to one car, with my wife working well south of home and I'm about the same distance to the north...
