Post by: Wittsend on September 04, 2009, 11:24:54 PM
For anyone considering going:
Went to Pick a Part today for the 50% off sale.  There was only one Pinto.  An early one. 2.0, Auto. Not much good.  There were two, early 70's Capri's.

Was that an in-dash AC and how hard was it to remove?

I guess it was. The heaterbox was the a/c box too. Don't know much about these but it didn't look like aftermarket that's for sure. I got all the ducting and the center fresh air vents. So all I will need to do is lower my heater and now a/c controls down to the instrument tray on the floor. I know I will have alot less leg room on the psss. side once installed into my car! LOL That is if we can even do it. We will be doing a test fit before drilling holes in my car. I don't care about losing leg room or even losing glove box space. As long as it is cool in the summer, I'm good!! LOL

I would say it wasn't to hard to remove, but I did the inside and hubby did the outside. You do have to remove alot! The car looked stripped when we were done! I did pull the dash in one piece I only cut the wires going to the headlight and turn signal switches. The rest I just unhooked from the dash! Once the dash was out of the car, it made things alot easier!! The heater/a/c box came out in one huge chunk!!! So most of the work was getting the dash out of the way! We did pull the windshield to do this. I will do the same to my car when it comes time. I need to pull it anyway for the fact that it needs a headliner installed!

Ok Map51, I will see about pulling the pan and pick up while we are out there today! Didn't think about that.

Wittsend, sure hope you don't mind I kind of jacked your thread. I just figured this fit in the topic!!  ;D

Went back out there today, asked how much the hub caps would be and he said 9.98 a piece, I asked is that the half price price? He said yes!  :hypno: :hypno: :hypno:  We didn't bother to pay the 4 bucks to get in for 40 dollars worth of hub caps! Specially since I didn't need them and thought it would be to costly to just get them to set them on a shelf!

Imagine what it would cost for a stupid set of hub caps not on half price!!! That would have been 80 bucks for little tin hubcaps! Outrageous!!!!

PnP is just getting to outrageous on their parts anymore. I think it is because they have no competition anymore! They want almost 45 bucks or so for a tailight now! Used to go get one for 15 bucks or so!

Not at all. It's all about the "Deal."  Sorry to hear about the prices.  But, yea, "yard" prices were nearly half of what they are now 10 years ago.

We have the franchise "Pick A Part" and an independent "U - Pull Parts."  The U-Pull Parts is typically about 30%-40%, but no warranty (30 days).  I find I get less and less with each visit. '61 Corvair wagon, '63 Rambler American HT, '73 datsun 510, '73 Plymouth Valiant, '73 Pinto wagon - parts for these cars is very rare.

Friday I got a desperately needed set of 4 tires for my Mazda 323, daily driver. 185-60-15's on steel wheels for $44.40 out the door for all four.  I also picked up a set of Hella, H-4, 5-3/4" headlights for $5 each with bulbs.  I sure wish they were 7", but still a deal I couldn't pass up.

Yah, the stuff I got for 'me' was a good deal. Specially for half price! Just to bad about trying to help out the next guy! To just buy the parts for them, PnP makes it to expensive! But, still a good deal if 'you' want something far yourself! :)

Second on the Ecology yards, I scored a complete 8" rear end from a 1976 Ford Pinto wagon for 80.00 out the door. I have to tear it down to get some sand out but it should be fine....The yard is near Victorville CA....Also they have a military discount....The rear end btw is a 3.0 ...

I fourth or fifth the Ecology motion! There's one here in Oceanside, two south of me (San Diego and Chula Vista), one it Bloomington (or Fontana),... they're all over out here. Sadly Pintos are getting real scarce. Kimmy, THAT much for hubcaps!? Talk about highway robbery. It's all about money. I expect sometimes the prices are higher due to the environmental stuff (hazmat, environmental fees, etc.) Too bad you couldn't buy the whole car and strip it at home.  :-\
