Title: 72' 2.0 timing specs
Post by: Daniel C on September 04, 2009, 04:18:31 PM

Hi, I'm new to pintos, and was wondering what the timing specs were and what the recommended procedure is to adjust the timing.

I've got a 72' it's a 2.0, the in-line 4, OHC...

The timing is off, and I don't have a manual yet, so any input would be awesome! Thanks.

Try 10* BTDC. If it pings on a pull, back it down 2* at a time. I think the spec is 6*BTDC but it will run better at 10.
1. Mark the notch in the crank pulley w/ white paint or white out and find the 10 on the timing scale and mark it.
2.Start the engine and let it warm up so the choke is off and it is at base idle. Turn the engine off.
3. Unhook and plug the vacuum hose on the distributor, slightly loosen the dist bolt, and hook up the timing light.
4. Restart the engine and move the dist until the marks line up. Snug the dist bolt and recheck the timing. Hook up the vacuum hose and take it for a spin!  :fastcar:
