GM Canada and Ford Canada used to have a historian on staff. For a fee, you could get the info on your car, where and when it was built, when it was shipped, to what dealer, as well as the engine, tranny, inside and outside colours, and a list of options. I don't know if AMC and Chrysler had a similar service available. I have that info for my Pontiac (which I got from GM Canada in 1996 or so). The historians are long gone.
My Pinto was built in New Jersey by Ford USA. Is there such a serice available from Ford USA?
Hey oldcarpierre:
Information about your FORD (Pinto) car can be obtained from Marti Auto Works.
They are the licensee to Ford Motor Company's entire production database for
the 1967-1979 model years. Here is the link:
http://www.martiauto.com/reports2.cfm (http://www.martiauto.com/reports2.cfm)
I got the Elite Report for my 1977 Pinto CW and it is worth the $220.00.

You can also call 1-800-232-5952 and request a 999 report. It is free and it gives you some of the info that you are looking for. It only takes a couple of weeks. When you call have your v.i.n. handy.
