Just, like 30 mins ago, got the motor and trans set into my II, Motor is 2.3 turbo, and 5sp trans from 87 T-bird turbo couple. Just from looking underneath the shifter appears to be a lot further ahead that I expected ? Anyone run into this, or know ? Maybe im just seeing thing, lol, wont get another chance to look at it until prolly the weekend, but it didnt look right. Thanks
dont knwo abot that problem with the mustang II but alot have had that issue with the Pinto's. I would look in the dearch function for the Swap info or anything on it. It should show you something that will help you. i think Dvholverson ran into that problem but im not sure.
Look at http://www.joe-escobar.com/pinto.html (http://www.joe-escobar.com/pinto.html) to see where the shifter goes.
Great job of recording your process, nice work too! I wish I had taken some pics of mine, will be starting now though, Im nowhere near done. When I get a chance to get back into the garage, I can compare it with how your shifter sits. Thanks for that link, and the older bumpers were worth the effort always liked them better too.
in both pintos ive swapped the 5speed into i had to cut the opening 2" forward of the stock opening to accomodate the shifter.
Im guessing thats what I will have to do, seemed to be about that amount. Is the shifter farther to reach? and have you ever run a console to see if it still fits. I had put a II console in a couple of my Pintos before, liked them.

someone, i think it was wittsend, said they didnt like shifting it like this and used a different set up. ive had no problems the past year kickin "n" stickin with this set up.

Sweet, that answers a bunch of questions, one more though. Did you go with hyd. or cable for the clutch ? I havent fully decided which way Im going yet.
i ran a cable clutch. i used a bell out of a late 80s mustang that was not a direct pull, it has the fulcrum (thats probably spelled wrong). a notch in the crossmember should be made if you run a bell like i have. if not, the cable will rub. look at the pic below. the way i look at it...why bother switching something that works fine??? in my opinion, there are no benafits to running a hydrolic clutch, other than it doesnt have to be adjusted.

No need to notch anything as joe escobars pictures show.
no need to notch...IF you move the mounting point of the cable on the bellhousing. stock location will hit.
