Title: WHAT DOES A 2.3 BAD CAMSHAFT SOUND LIKE

WHAT A BAD CAMSHAFT SOUND LIKE, AND WHAT SYMPTOMS SHOULD I LOOK FOR.... :'(

If its an intake, it will run smooth but be down on power. If its an exhaust, it will backfire through the carb and make all kinds of noise. Also down on power.

It might also have a clatter noise heard in under the valve cover as the rocker loosens up.

well it seems to be down on power, it is making a loud clatter noise up and down the rpm range.  does not backfire through the carb. The noise is coming from the valve cover area, I put a broom handle on the valve cover and the other end on my ear and you can hear it loud and clear...

I guess I will try and locate a roller set up out of a ranger or mustang and install that---

It also could be a rocker arm that fell off ???
