So I have a 77 Pinto wagon with some pretty bad misfiring going on.
It only seems to be happening when the engine is cold.
If I can keep the engine running long enough for it to get up close to normal temp, the problem seems to go away, although it feels like there's a bit of power loss at higher speeds or going up hills.
If I try and drive it before it warms up, it will sputter and stall out and it's hard to get it to start again. Then if I wait maybe 5-10 minutes I can get it to start and I'll let it sit and run until it warms up and then I can drive it.
The plugs look okay. Not fouled, although I didn't put these in so I can't be sure they are gapped right...if that is something that might cause this. Been running with these plugs a month so it seems like I'd have had this problem earlier if that were the case.
Replaced the plug wires, distributor cap and rotor.
Replaced the coil.
I have messed with the timing but that hasn't helped.
None of this has made any difference.
What else should I be looking at? ???
Sounds like the choke isn't working at all.

I have a Holly carb with a manual choke.
Just replaced all the plugs, making sure they were gapped right. No dice.
Wow. I guess I have everyone totally stumped haha!
couuld be a vacume leak
Um yeah, so..... anyway.
It ended up being the ignition module. Thanks everybody.
Ha! Thats a new twist! They tend to crap out when they get hot, and work again when they get cold!!
How`s it run now
