Title: 2.3L help
Post by: Cobra II on August 23, 2009, 02:26:49 PM
I was wondering if the Pinto People can help me out. I was interested in purchasing a '76 Mustang with the 2.3L and the owner has told me that the carb has oil coming up through it. Has anyone experienced this, and what would need to be done to correct it? Just head work or a complete rebuild? I was told the car had been running and made a noise, then the engine quit. It will start but has a bad oil smell to it. The valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, rear main seal, and rod bearings were recently replaced. It was believed to have a bad valve lash adjuster but nothing else was noticeably wrong with it before the work was done to it.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a broken piston. I doubt if the oil is coming through the carb, probably lots of blowby getting into the air cleaner. Sounds like time for a rebuild.
