Hi Folks, I have a friend who is selling a couple of his cars. He has a 76 V6 Bobcat wagon in pretty good shape it runs well & passes Cal smog , CARB will give him $1K to crush it. I wold hate to see that happen. He also has a 79 2.3 Auto Cruzin Wagon in ok shape has not run in a few years but is all there. The cars are Cal rust free and I would love to see somebody save the cars if possible.
Here is his info Mike Madden , (lugnut@garlic.com ) he has pics he can send if anyone is interested Please help save the wagons.
Thanks Paul
Where are they located, and has he mentioned how much to part with the cruising wagon?
Al...
Can you tell me more about the CARB program that will give 1K for your car??
Is it a state run thing??
What are the requirements??
THe CARB thing is the California mandate that allows their government to try and rid the state of "old, defunct, fuel inefficient vehicles" (much like "cash for clunkers")by paying set amounts to the owners. Gotta love California - great place to visit, lousy place to live.
Chris
California isnt too bright...a tuned up Pinto gets pretty good gas mileage. We gotta save all we can.
Popbumper: Amen, RSM you got it .Al, Morgan Hill CA., :'(I think about $1500.00 for the cruiser. If anybody is interested PLEASE e-mail Mike and get the straight scoop.
Thanks Paul
Does the vehicle have to be continuously registered??
What are the requirements??
I'm the guy selling the cars that Skunky56 is referring to. The scrapping program is by the Bay Area Air quality Management District www.baaqmd.gov (http://www.baaqmd.gov)
It is NOT related to 'clunkers' and has nothing to do with gas mileage, its only for clean air. The car has to be older than 1988? and continuously registered and insured in a bay area county for 2 years. The bobcat runs good, and I hate to see a Pinto/Bobcat scrapped, but I don't see much potential in it, and I need the money! Don't worry though, I would NEVER send the 79 cruising wagon to the junkyard. I have too many unfinished projects, so I would like to 'rehome' the 79 CW too.

I'd hate to know that Bobcat's getting crushed. SAVE THEM!!! I thought '76 and older cars were smog exempt. Maybe it's '75 and older. Anyway, if I could afford to save the B-Cat myself I would, even if I had to rehome her. Bobcats are even more scarce than Pintos and I have to admit that I kinda fell in love with the pretty blue one Fred got (no I won't be in a bidding war 75BCV6!)lol. Just save both these great lil' road warriors from Death By Clean Air. >:(
Well that sucks.
I'd send my car to the crusher for a thousand bucks!!
But its Bay Area only??
I wonder if they have something similar in So.Cal.
you're right, 1975 and older cars don't need smog checks, but are eligable for what they call 'buy-back' or 'retirement'. The air district is a bit more sensitive to car hobbyists- the cars they buy are made available to junkyards to sell all the parts.

Egads!!! Surely you're not talking about a Pinto ???
Dwayne :'(
Dwayne ,yes he was, I posted this to possibly help lugnut sell this Bobcat so it won't get crushed. Please don't let this happen to a nice Pinto or Bobcat if possible. If I was able to afford it I would buy it myself.

Actually, I was referring to PintoPro's statement that he'd send HIS car to the crusher :(.
I can't really afford Mike's Bobcat either, but I'd do it anyway just to save it from the crusher if I was anywhere close. Unfortunately, being in Virginia, the shipping would kill me money-wise. Sure hope somebody steps up to the plate and saves this Bobcat.
Dwayne
Unfortunately, I am thinking of sending a Pinto in. I dont think anybody would miss it.
I could sure use the money instead of the car just sitting here.
Im looking further into this to see if my county has a program like this.
