A Holley 350 2bbl is a bolt on and will give good performance. Well, I say bolt on, but that is if you lose the EGR plate, so if you have smog checks for inspection that's out. Otherwise the 350 is a good choice. There is another post on here where someone is wanting to put a 500 on a 2.0 and I think we are all in agreement that is way too much carb. Same holds true for the 2.3.

How hard would it be to machine out the EGR plate and use longer studs to take a Holley 350?

Just get a EGR plate for a Ford V-8 with a 2 barrel carb.
