Title: Gas Tank sender unit help part 2
Post by: hellfirejim on August 05, 2009, 06:41:17 AM
I don't have a wiring diagram so could someone tell me what the wiring colors are for the gas tank sender.  Also which is in and which is out. :read:
Thanks

This is according to 74 and 76 diagrams (I do not have the 75 diagrams).  The black wire is the ground and gets connected to rheostat slider/common connection.  The yellow with white strip wire gets connected to clean end of the rheostat (this wire goes to the gauge).

Have fun.

ok the latest.  i got it all wired up and the gauge wouldn't work.  Since autometer is just up the road from me i stopped in.  They said I have the right gauge and what ohms I am reading indicates the tank is empty.  So when i  get from texas next week i will go put gas in it to be sure and re-read the ohms to see if it matches up to what they are saying.  The lady did say that if the gauge is bad they will swap itjout for me.  so we shall see.  i have been having carb problems so maybe i am getting really lousy gas milage.  who knows as this all knew to me.

As promised here is the deal.  I grounded the gas tank and the gauge needle did move up to empty so the gauge works.  Obviously it is the sender that is bad.  I can deal wit it and next spring when we drop the gas tank to add a return line for EFI i will put in a new sender and all new gaskets....
