Title: 2.0 Clutch Disc?
Post by: 72Wagon on August 01, 2009, 08:21:21 PM
I am in need of a quality clutch disc for my 2.0, it currently has a old RACER WALSH performance (10,000 rpm) disc which has served me well. I don't believe they offer this any longer and don't know who was their supplier. I really dont trust the quality of the auto store specials.
Thanks Kevin

The 2.0 and 2.3 both use a 23 spline disc, RW or Esslinger should have something.

Didn't realize they were one and the same, Thanks that should make things easier. Any brand better then another?

I had good luck with a Zoom disc, The pressure plate seemed to make the most difference as far as making the disc live. I got a lightweight but super heavy-duty PP from RW, it was about $300.00.

Have read good things on the Zoom parts, my presure plate is in good condition, thats why I am needing just the disc. Have used the cheap stuff in the past and they end up having loose springs (noisy) in a short time of use.

Used a cheapie one time in my 2.0, speed shifted into second at 8000 RPM and it self destructed!
Also spun the center out of a high dollar disc from Esslinger, it was rated up to 200 HP  ??? Couldn't handle the nitrous I guess!  ;D Never did destroy the Zoom.

Well I contacted PERFECTION about their Clutch sets, I asked what the difference was between their PERFECTION clutch sets and their ZOOM sets, he said the ZOOM sets were performance sets, he then asked for the part number or application I was refering too. I gave him the part number for the Pinto (MU47275-1), he then stated that in that application there was no differnce.
Well I purchased the Perfection set and proceeded to pull the tranny tonight, got the old clutch out and the opened the box on the new clutch set.
Well the first thing I notice is that the clutch disc looks weak and says made in CHINA, next I unwrap the pressure plate and was shocked to see how much smaller it is compared to the OEM pressure plate. There is NO WAY this is going into my car. I will be returning it monday, and contacting Perfetion and voicing my opinion about their product (politely).
This clutch set up would probably survive a stock Pinto driven by a old lady/gentleman for the length of the warranty.
I will probably put the old set up back in until I get this resovled!

10,000 RPM is still open.
