Title: Memories.....
Post by: Srt on July 28, 2009, 11:26:58 PM
I remember when, in the early '70s,.........

Heading out to Stonewood Shopping Center to meet with the 3 other Pinto owners that started up the STONE PONYS....

Re-jetting carbs & setting timing in the parking lot for beer money  :surprised: ($2 bucks was a LOT of money in those days)....

My girl & I heading out to Bolsa Chica Beach on a weeknight with a trunk full of firewood and hot dogs and ...beer!....

Spending a Sunday afternoon at my friend John Gunthers house washing & waxing our Pintos & shootin' the shizod then...

Heading over to Shakeys in Bellflower for a STONE PONYS meeting with the others for pizza and more beer & to plan! our next weekend of stuff to do....

My 'little' brother "Stompin Stu" jumping 2 Pintos & a VW in front of our house on his stingray/bmx bike........http://www.bangpictures.com/tv/stu_teaser.html (http://www.bangpictures.com/tv/stu_teaser.html)

Irwindale Raceway on a Sunday afternoon and all the runs you could stand for about $7.00

Many runs out to the San Fernando Valley for some navigational rallyes (those are fun)....

Heading south to the Escondido area then inland & up to Julian and all the apple orchards for a day trip....

A trip from Julian over the top of the mountains and into Anza-Borrego ( I love the desert)....

On of our members & his girl taking a 400' tumble to the bottom of a canyon while coming down the eastern side of the mountains into Lake Elsinore on Ortega Highway score: Pinto totalled-people OK),,,,

Burning pistons on my motor while street racing....

Changing those piston/rod assemblies the next morning.....

Doing it all over again the next weekend!

Trips up to Big Bear & slammin our cars up the hill.....

Sounds like a well-rounded youth! lol.  ;D In the early '90s when I had my first Pinto I drove to Julian- but I drove there in wintertime. I encountered my first patch of "black ice" between Descanso and Julian. Good times, ...good times.  ;D

Ok, I was still getting diapers changed and taking baths in the kitchen sink :embarassed:    but....

In the early 80's my next door neighbor had an almost new Rallye Pinto (the second Pinto love of my life) I was about ten. The summer sun in El Paso Texas was hot. My neighbor (older guy, but nice :)) gave me a can of Dr Pepper (there was a contest going with letters on the pull-tabs, you had to spell out "D R P E P P E R" to win) and let me watch him do his weekly service and wash and wax it. I remember how modern the silver paint looked and what a contrast the red interior was to it. I liked sitting in it and looking up thru the glass sunroof :) That was the first 'square headlight' Pinto I clearly remember. All my driving and breaking down stories happened in the early 90's. I got my license in the summer of '90 right before I turned 18. I'm still in the desert, but further north now.

Thanks for keeping the torch lit! :)

I was about 5 or so years old then, and Mom and Dad had a blue with white strip sedan. It had white and blue interior (if I remember correctly). I remember playing in the back seat, played with our cars on the backboard. I can also remember climbing around in it as we drove! That was before seat belt laws.  ;D

This is the memory that got me into the Pinto. Just wanted one, and currently have 6!! LOL

I was in later grade school and Junior High in the first half of the '70s, more of the MAD and CARtoons market than really noticing Pintos.

My first Pinto was an '80 purchased new and driven until '92, so the Pinto is more of an '80s thing with me.
