Title: Maverick nameplate lives on
Post by: oldcarpierre on July 18, 2009, 05:02:00 PM
I was poking around on Google and stumbled upon a Russian website for car enthusiasts.  I knew that Ford of Australia was still using the Falcon name.  I did not know that the Maverick name was stil being used (rebadged Escape).  Is it just a matter of time before we can order a new Pinto, even though it may look like like a Fusion?

Huh. I was disappointed to see that the Russian Ford Maverick is NOTHING like the original. I guess Freestyle isn't cool in that part of the world. I think the Taurus here is our modern-day Maverick.  :-\

From what I gather from the higher-ups at FoMoCo, the Pinto nameplate is just to tarnished to risk naming a new car a Pinto, as much as they would like to do a retro-Pinto.(Focus) Sorry.
BTW, I hope there isn't a virus hiding in that link, all kinds of crap kept popping up when I tried to close it.

Interesting,
I had no trouble accessing and no pop-ups on my end.  Live and learn for next time though.  My apologies.

Here is something interesting.  On the Ford UK site, they have a Focus convertible.  Also a car named Galaxy (not quite Galaxie, but close).

The Russian Ford "Maverick" is actually an Autralian Ford. In Aus it is called the "Territory".

The picture on that Russian site looked just like the American Ford Escape.  Is that the same car Australians call "Territory"?
