I've been lurking in here for years and now I guess it's time to post. I recently bought a 72 Sprint, it is in great condition. Less than 36,000 miles, dealer installed DellOrto's, header, 11 to 1 pistons, high lift cam, aluminum flywheel, Weber clutch and a front sway bar. The car was originally sold in Hawaii as a Dealer Promotional car. Later moved to California, then to Texas and I just moved it to Ohio. I traveled 1600 miles to buy this car. My plans are to restore it to original condition. I had a Sprint when I was in high school and wanted it for nostalgic reasons. I've had a total of 8 Pintos, 3 of which I put V8's in. My last Pinto was just too fast for me, either that or I'm just getting old. Either way it scared me. So this one will just be a toy.
I'm wondering how I can get production numbers for the Sprint? Just how rare is this car now? I saw another one on here a few years back down in Florida, but it had been cut up. This one I found here also. Aside from those two and the one I had in 1980 I don't know of any others. So where do I go to get those numbers?
I look forward to posting more often and possibly getting together with other Pinto enthusiasts.
I'm sooo glad on of us bought the Sprint in the classified section, I have been toying around with the idea of purchasing the car but since I was building a house currently money is tight.
Please stick around & post more pictures of this car, are you going to remove the mag wheels & put the original steel wheels with the dog dish caps on them?
I believe the Sprint option Pinto is one of the rarest Pintos, I don't think anyone on this site but you owns a Sprint. I can only think of 3 actual sprints I have come across since this site was created, I have never actually laid my eyes ona real Sprint to this day. I can only look at the pictures.
Also, I have been asked again & again for photo opportunities of an actual Sprint & was unable to refer them to an actual owner until now. (If you're willing)
You really have a prize there!
I will probably keep the mag wheels. They are how I had my original Sprint set up. Besides, with dual carbs and the engine work the skinny stockers wouldn't work very well.
When I finish the car you are welcome to suggest my car for photo opportunities.
I still cannot find any production numbers for the Sprint. Can you suggest a place to look for them? If it is truly a rare Pinto it may influence how I go about restoring the car. I've considered setting it up to Autocross for fun, but maybe I should just leave this alone and show it.
Appreciate any advice on finding out its uniqueness.
If it were me, I would show it... But that's me...
I can't give you any production figures but there is a site in the link section 'The Ford Pinto Page' that may have the inforamtion... Don't remember...
I guarentee there will be writers & photographers looking for a Sprint to photograph, I'll send them your way,
Keep us posted on your progress!
