I have a 78 Pinto, and there is blowby coming out of every open hole on my engine.
I was told there is too much crankcase pressure, and was wondering what I need to do to remedy this situation.
Thanx for the help
TTT ???
i would say a rebuild is in order, if you have that much blowby.....no easy fixes.
Unfortuneately I have to Agree with Jeff. You posted before that it blew the dipstick out of it's tube. If that's the case, then the piston rings are probably worn out at best & maybe even broken. If you decide to replace the rings, then you're doing a rebuild. A remanufactured engine will set you back around $1300.
I found like 4 Ranger engines on Ebay for $299 here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7925539615&category=33615
And here's an '88 Mustang drivetrain for $150 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7926546999&category=33615
Both of these would require that you use YOUR head & distributor, but as a + they BOTH have the roller cam in them so your Pinto will be a bit faster than stock.
A rebuild kit is around $350 & a couple weeks labor
Well,
I guess I'll just have to stop driving the car until I can get a replacement motor for her. I had a buddy of mine look at the car & that's when he told me there was too much crankcase pressure, so I was just curious.
I guess my phrase really fits my car. (if it aint broke it aint a Ford)
You'll get her back in order Matt. A Pinto is a great car to learn mechanics on, they're as basic as they come.
Besides if you run into trouble all of us around here are willing to help in any way we can. :)
