busted my first posi rear today! went to advance to pick up a new coolant temp sensor and when i was leaving my friend the manager told 2 of the kids there how tough my pinto was so they came out to see me jump on it so i reved it up to about 4500 and dumped the clutch and it said BANG!! all i could do was laugh.... i was 3 blocks from home and the next door neighbor still had the car trailor on his truck so he came down and brought me home. ive already got a 8.8 for the car. just need to go through it. gona narrow it and rebuild the traclock and go to c-clip eliminators. this one should hold up. im also gonna swap out t5s while its apart. i think its kinda cool that a little 4 banger can bust posi rears.......

Steve and I are the best of friends and work on each others cars. This is just a little something to have fun with. I feel certain that sooner or later we will put them side by side, but it doesn't really matter which one wins. It's all just a good time. well, the new rear is done and i just have to install it tonight. what i ended up with is 8.8 3.55 gears, kevlar clutch pack, 04 cobra posi unit(its physically larger than a standard posi housing), new spider gears, new bearings and seals, welded tubes and a smoothed and painted housing with new perches.... im ready to get it back on the road.!!! oh yeah, new pp, clutch, flywheel, tranny, short throw shifter, a little more of a tune on it and a head being done also......im gettin real close to the point of taking it to the track to get some baseline #s before the new engine goes in..... :devil:

good to hear its all in and works like you hoped...yes i went last month... i missed the one this month..was in Ohio helping my dad who got out of hospital.. but hes doing good now.. got my wagon in garage this weekend.. changing it back to 4 lug and back to draglites for it. and trying to seal the new windshield gasket.. then paint touch up under hood and tailgate and sport mirrors.. but just little stuff. im driving it to work almost everyday now.. its fun.. get tons of looks and comments...was planning on Fat Boys next month but am going to Charlotte for AutoFair for 4 days.. got a swap meet space and am taking stuff up to see if i can sell it... roy

saw the ad but dont know the car or person. better be perfect for that price!!! if hed give me about 2 months id run him for pinks.... yes there is some serious stuff getting ready to happen to the little 4 banger... and i dont think 4 extra cylinders would do him any good..... :devil:
If you already have an 8.8 rear, then I can understand using it, but if you have to source another rearend, why not go with a 9" inch??....you wont break it, and its so much better than the 8.8
Actually with some work the 8.8 canbe strong enough for what we want to do with it. Price wise if you are buying new parts thenit can also be cheaper. Just personal preference as the 8" falls into the same category..

A 9' is stronger and hard to break but they are also heavier and create more drag on the drive line. they take more power to use. the parts are pricier and harder to find than the 8.8. i believe my setup will stand up to anything i can throw at it now....

hey steve.. talked to a guy at O'Riellys Auto today.. he saw my wagon when i pulled in and was telling me about this little red turbo pinto that got him and his buddy to pull their T-bird Turbo coupe over to talk..LOL.. you made quite an impression on him with the little car... roy
yeah, i know who you are talklin about. he has a really nice 88 bird turbo... i was out tuning the car and he tried to outrun me... didnt happen. he's a nice kid though.
