The 2.3 is the Lima or Pinto engine. The 2.0 is the German Four (Banger/Popper).

Although, I prefer to call my engine George.

that's difficult like doug said there  are AKA's given to them. If you own a 2.0(german) It's rferred to as 2.0 OHC 'Pinto' 1971-1974. by most of the companies selling parts for them. British based companies including KENT(go figure) refer to them that way. I'm sure  with all the cars you have listed that you own a 2.0 and many ebay ads contain 2.0 or 2000cc with PINTO in the ad, but when you read the application list they list PINTO because what they are selling parts for is the smaller version of the FORD made 2.3, they made a 2.0 based on the 2.3. Our German 71-74 2.0's share almost nothing in common with a Ford Ranger 2.0.
The 2.3 introduced in 1974 when the 1.6 Kent(pushrod)was phased out, went through a few changes and a lot of guys on this forum are better versed at them, but other than upgrades like D port heads and roller cams ,they BASICALLY remained the same engine. crossy

i'm still trying to figure how anyone 'broke' a 2.0L, LOL
all three of my others one took every bit of ABUSE i gave them.  well i guess if the soft cam metal got left in the Oil?  2 of my four total had cam issues tat got resolved.  the 'new' one I have now is low mileage and I run synthetic oil so hopefully there  will not be an issue. Crossy
