Title: Vacuum advance clearance
Post by: bowser22 on June 13, 2009, 01:06:03 PM
Hi! Im new to the forums. My issue is that i dropped a new pinto engine off a 78 into my little kit car because the old engine had erratic timing and was just a pain in the butt. Now with this new engine the distributor vacuum advance rubs against the steering column and makes the wheel very stiff and hard to turn. To remedy the situation i made some shims up at my shop to raise the engine and the clearance is still poor. Any ideas? Also one of the mounts didnt survive the frequent reinstallation of the engine, are all the mounts the same the whole way through?

what car did you put it in?? did you put it in as a front drive?
You could pull the distriburor prt way out and turn, resecure and move the wires around to gain diapham clearance. Then retime it, you know, TDC#1, rotor position.

I installed it into a Grand Dutchess Migi kit car.
